Have just come in from the shed having put on the first coat of Satin varnish. Here are a couple of shots from the rear.

Although the actual joints between the panels are very nearly flush these views apparently make a liar of me!
After the second coat I shall be either hammering in thousands of nails or, and this is the more likely scenario, laying down thousands of little dots to represent those thousands of nails

. I'll use a stylus pen loaded with dark brown waterproof ink. That should do the trick.
I've modified the nose area, as suggested by Proctor's manual, by removing everthing above the top longeron and will make the upper part, including the dummy Mercedes, completely removable for access to the ST 3000.
The (out of focus

) gun mounts are installed. I did these the hard way and soldered them up from brass tube instead of the wooden parts as supplied.
The cockpit area is ready for staining, painting, varnishing. Note the diagonal reinforcing bands to the cockpit side walls.
