The basic process for producing 'flush' panel lines is as follows..............

1) Once the model is glassed, flatted and in primer, the panel lines are laid out using a 1/64" fineline self adhesive tape

Available here......Panel Line Tape

2) 2-3 coats of primer are sprayed only over the tapes, NOT over the whole model. All you want to do is build up a depth of paint in the location of the lines.

3) Once dry, the surface is wet sanded with a 600-1000 grade flatting pad of wet and dry until the black of the tape 'just' shows through the primer.

4) The tapes are then removed to leave a shallow groove in the primer.

To produce overlapping or 'raised' panel line, the process is slightly different........

1) Once the model is glassed, flatted and in primer, mark out the raised panel edge in pencil on the surface of the model.

2) Apply 1, 2 or even 3 layers of PVC insulating or masking tape along the 'low' side of the edge (1 layer for small model, 2 layers for 1/6 - 1/5 scale, and 3 layers for 1/4 scale or bigger)

3) Apply a skim of a hard auto body filler up against the tape on the 'raised' side of the panel.

4) Leave to cure before feathering the filler into the models surface and the surface of the tape with wet & dry.

5) Remove the tape to leave a hard raised edge.
