that battery IS the main drive battery, not the aux batt, the blue you see is just styrofoam bouyancy with a servo lead taped taped to it to keep it from fouling on the linkage for the rudder. this boat is said to be ballasted with polystyrene!!
The idea of the plates are there to stop water getting to the hatch area, like building up the sides of the hull, i also have 4 more holes to drill in the deck hatch and flange, so i can then fit M3 nuts behind them, and so SCREW the hatch down, there is also planking to go on as well, so with the grease i have, the hatch can be hopefully sealed. Water sometimes gets sweped over the low sides of the hull, and its THAT water that i want to stop.
The deck planking will eventually go all the way down the hull to the rollers at the stern.
