Looks like a very decent model to me, loads of options as well.. Question though, about the paintjob. Will you paint her like she's fresh built, or shall you weather her up with a bit of rust?

At some stage i intend on sanding all the paint off and redoing it as I admit now, its rougher than a dog's behind! but the weather hasn't been truly great for spraying as it has to be done outside. For some reason the paint hasn't binded well. same tins as i resprayed Celestia with as well and that ship had no issues. i had a scrap that required some touch up, and the masking took off a MASSIVE area of paint My skills in weathering are not wonderful, so I'll probably keep it newish, right now she has 2 slightly different shades of red, the base coat red and the red used in touch ups. due to being swamped more than once, I have decided to make some changes to the interior layout of Nord Adiemus, the older 3300mah 6-cell battery has been pulled out and replaced by a 6-cell AA pack, sitting on top of some polystyrene to keep it out of water. next plan is to put the entire engine section in an encasement to keep water from getting to it. 15mm to 20mm of water in the boat is not fun! |

A change of plan, rather than have the AA pack mounted 15mm off the floor of the boat, sitting on packing foam, I have put the original battery in a tub with a splash cover over it. The Rx, a Futaba R114F is also located in its on protective case. though i have not tested the battery tub in anger, the Rx case came in handy last weekend after a good swamping. ![]() her hull is filled with strofoam packing as well |

well after several swampings, I have decided to try something, adding plates to the sides of the safety rails, the idea of these is to *try* and prevent water getting into the boat when it gets onto the sides of the deck. Next it may be have work onto the stern section, at regatta, (modelboatmayhem 2010), the winds blew MY table over onto Nord Adiemus, and i think something on the table is what punched a small gash into the hull where the deck and hull meet. why aren't you using a receiver/ESC with BEC ? you won't need the receiverbattery anymore. btw, with those plates, any water that will make it on your ship will stay there longer, so the chance that the water gets in your ship is bigger. many people use ducktape to seal the hatch, i guess it works |

that battery IS the main drive battery, not the aux batt, the blue you see is just styrofoam bouyancy with a servo lead taped taped to it to keep it from fouling on the linkage for the rudder. this boat is said to be ballasted with polystyrene!! The idea of the plates are there to stop water getting to the hatch area, like building up the sides of the hull, i also have 4 more holes to drill in the deck hatch and flange, so i can then fit M3 nuts behind them, and so SCREW the hatch down, there is also planking to go on as well, so with the grease i have, the hatch can be hopefully sealed. Water sometimes gets sweped over the low sides of the hull, and its THAT water that i want to stop. The deck planking will eventually go all the way down the hull to the rollers at the stern. it was mentioned about a false hatch... well here is my idea and interpretation of the mentioning, I have only however done just a mock up, with the piece under the bridge being a final piece, the longer piece is just some scrap. ![]() when complete, the inner flange will go all around the hatchspace and be reinforced. the inner hatch will then sit on this and have tape over the join or grease under the hatch, or even both it to seal it. the external visible hatch will be held in place by screws and eventually planked. well, it sort of worked. after taping the hatch up, i filled the bath up with around 5" of water and put nord adiemus into water up to her roof. no air bubbles escaped from the aft end of the vessel, BUT water, around 120ml, did find its way into the hull. now my eyes will turn towards the bow and where the hawse pipes were put. as they were done post build, they are just CA'd in, so a good mix of epoxy should cure that.
