Standaard Nord Adiemus - a small supply ship

hello, first time on these boards, but i thaught i'd share one of my latest builds with you,

her build started at a model boat show, I was board, as it was a small show, and had spotted the model in a plastic bag, and at the price of £30, which was i think around 35euros.

I spent most of saturday at the show cutting the hull's excess plastic off, and getting the superstructure made up, rather than using the same superstructure that came with the kit, i chose to build my own one.

inside her, there is a block layout 7.2v ni-mh battery, around 3300mah i think which feeds a 15A Mtroniks Viper speed controller. Initially the choice of motor was a 385, however due to the motor not being in best oc conditions, spinning the 40mm prop, the motor began to overheat, so this was changed to a Graupner speed400

however the motor still wasn't upto the job, problem was the prop was a little bit too big for the motor, so the result was a drop to a 30mm prop and yet another motor, a new 385...

...the new propeller and 385 combination runs much cooler, and even though the rudder i chose may not be the biggest rudder, it handles well, even though for some reason it somehow set at a slight angle and isnt truly vertical, i had not spotted this until the epoxy had set!!

this is the original prop

as you can probably see, its a little large for a tiny motor!

things yet to be installed at this time are the anchors and chains, along with the winch gear, they were not in the kit.

thanks bart, its the old HFM-Jotika kit, sails well, and given that we had some powerful winds recently that were blowing trees down, she actually sailed quite well, wind has not got much to bite onto in the same way that a Graupner neptun or Sydney star has.

Her only access is the aft hatch, so after seeing someone ROLL and capsize an aziz I took the idea to go not quite so scale and use m3 pins with a nut under the deck in order to fasten the back hatch down. rather loose points in a competition than the boat to the lake. other things such as bulwark braces will be fitted in due course, she's not anywhere near done yet.

a second youtube video of her
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQeHb9KvPYs

One thing I did not mention was the radio, I have chosen to keep with my Futaba 6EXA radio on 40mhz, the boat has an R114F inside her, and set up for single stick operation.

CircusAso, thanks this boat is not finished yet, a few more features to be put on, anchors+chains and winches, bracings, deck planks etc. she also needs a seal on her aft deck and a couple more fastennings. I want this one to be as water tight as my southampton. At the moment she's watertight from below, but not quite so watertight from above, so im a bit nervous about taking water over the back, its just 15mm off the water.

This is the Maersk Strider, an example of the same kit made by a Swedish modeller.

seen here in not so calm waters

Thanks bart,

Its the old HFM Marine ORSV kit, for a while made by Jotika, however i think speedline models may well be reproducing it, Adrian of speedline asked me for feedback as I put the boat together.

My main gripe is rudder access, i cut the hatches as per isntructions, and fund that my allen keys (standard metric) would not reach the rudder, so had to cut a second access point in the aft deck.

sails brilliantly, if a little duck like compared to some of the heavier 1/50th stuff when in heavy water.

there is also a slightly larger wooden versio out made by PBM, not sure if its sold as "weather class" or as "forties shore"

Hi Marc.

For Dutch offshore modellers, it's very small scale.
We go for the 1:50 scale,
But even a nice model.
)Of course is blue the best Colours)
