Try to pull out wire as far as possible, if not, just drill them out

Drill the ceramic out with a 5mm drill, low rpm. You need to sharpen the drill regularly as it wears out very quick.

Ready inconel tubes very cheap!

There are different exhaust types which all can be used, no big difference. As long as the gas path is aerodynamic with not too steep angles. Search this thread for different types of exhaust I made, take one convenient which is easy for you to make. For the 130 engine your total outlet surface area must be in the region of Ø51mm. If there's no bullet sticking out this is in fact the diameter you are looking for but maybe it needs fine tuning by closing/opening further, depending EGT's. Before doing any of this your engine must be in good order or else it is useless. If your exhaust center bullet/cone is sticking out you need to calculate the exhaust surface area. First calculate the outer ring (1/2 diameter square root, times Pi 3,14) and then subtract the inner diameter surface at the exit.

Found your exhaust in the picture!

This one is not bad at all, you can proceed with this one, it's the same type as on my last GR180. Is there a cone/bullet inside? You can do without at engines until 13kg thrust, some advise to install one, I always have but there are known commercial engines with no inner cone.

The outlet diameter seems small, although difficult to see in a picture, what size is it? Try to start with 50mm and observe EGT´s. You can increase diameter at small steps at a time (50,5/51/51,5/52 etc.) At full power 128.000 rpm this should be around 700 degrees max, maybe even slightly above. When rpm drops below 110.000 the temp needs to drop below 650 degrees. Most modern ´small` high/power engines run above 700 degrees at full power, the ones that don´t might have their temp sensor on the wrong position, incorrect false reading, only a few run cooler. The high temp is ok as long as it is not used prolonged which it never does on a typical model aircraft flight. (The thought is when having low temps you could rise power or else it´s a waist of power....)

Jgw/gr200

'T wordt hier steeds meer internationaal ghe ghe ghe.....

John Wright heeft onlangs weer wat testen gedaan met zijn JWG/GR200, is nu gekomen iets over de 20kg bij 119.000! Er moet nog een hoop getest worden maar resultaten zijn er in ieder geval! Laatste 1000 toeren trekt de motor zéker over de 21kg, nog wat testen met uitlaat diameters en verbrandingskamer geometrie om te kijken wat er nog meer uit te halen is.

Zelf ook maar eens gaan denken om weer aan deze motor te bouwen, misschien wat meer tijd in het voorjaar, we zullen zien. Het zou een mooie toevoeging zijn voor mijn grote F16 die nét iets meer 'grunt' mag hebben voor een schaal vliegdisplay. Daarnaast onlangs met de Dual F16 gevlogen met alle external tanks en conformal tanks, dan is de 18kg ineens wel krap met zoveel weerstand, ik vlieg dan voornamelijk 80% vermogen en vertikaal is er weinig over....tijd voor een GR200! :yes:

GR130 project

Hallo Gerald,

Milieustraat: goeie tip, binnenkort even langswippen daar.

Ik ben inderdaad nog steeds bezig met m'n turbineproject. Het heeft alleen de laatste 8 maanden stil gelegen. Nieuw huis gekocht, verbouwen, verhuizen, afwerken (nu bijna klaar). Afijn, dat vreet allemaal tijd en geld en die kun je beiden helaas maar 1 keer besteden.
Daar staat dan wel tegenover dat ik, als alles over een maand of twee af is, eindelijk een fatsoenlijk bouwhok heb: de garage. De oude eettafel (1.00 x 2.20 mtr) is dan mijn nieuwe bouwtafel en heb ik ruim plaats voor m'n draaibank en een freesbankje (dat op dit moment helaas nog op de verlanglijst staat).

Ik ga er van uit dat de motor nog dit jaar gaat draaien. Ik ben zelfs al voorzichtig aan het denken over de kist waar hij in gaat komen. Dat gaat een Fokker S-14 Machtrainer worden, schaal 1/6 of 1/5, daar ben ik nog niet over uit. Via Phantasy in Blue heb ik contact proberen te krijgen met Willy van de Elsen, maar ik heb nooit een reactie gehad op mijn mail. Daar moet ik dus nog een keer wat tijd in steken, of heb jij wellicht een mail adres of telefoonnummer...?

Zodra er weer vorderingen gemaakt worden, werk ik mijn eigen draadje weer bij. Tot dan leer ik gewoon van jou steeds weer nieuwe dingen via het forum.

Ja, tijd en geld, zouden we meer van moeten hebben!

Maar je zit straks weer goed dus daarna weer lekker knutselen, alles op zijn tijd, tis hobby hé.

Fokker S14 inderdaad leuke kist en de motor leent zich er denk ik prima voor. Ik heb geen direct contact met Willy, wel iemand die hem af en toe ziet, zal eens polsen binnenkort. Ik dacht ergens gehoord te hebben dat de mallen weel elders zijn maar bind me er niet op vast.

Kerobranders

Afgelopen dagen bezig geweest met de kerobranders, het concept werkt goed dus dan maar een paar bij maken voor de volgende motor en reserve. bij de eerste brander die ik had gemaakt had ik gebruik gemaakt van een oude gloeiplug omdat ik nog geen draad snijplaat heb. Nu merk ik dat deze plug tijdens het draaien toch nog wat lekt dus toch maar op zoek naar een passende snijplaat. En dan maar de draaibank aan het werk zetten....:

Haaks solderen om de hoogte zo laag mogelijk te houden zodat de plug binnen de ducting blijft.

Dat werkt mooi! De F16B dual is er klaar voor. Morgen nog een laatste afstel test en dan staat'ie weer klaar om te vliegen:

Afgelopen week inmiddels ook de tweede FADEC binnen gekregen, de andere motor voor de oranje F16 ook maar gelijk ombouwen. Vandaag bezig geweest met het solderen van de kabels:

Ik blijf er trouwens versteld van staan hoe klein ze die ECU kunnen maken, er zit werkelijk álles in en hij is nog kleiner dat een klein lucifer doosje.

Het zaakje effe provisorisch op de testbank geknoopt en meteen een start check doen op de garage vloer, je bent toch benieuwd niet waar! :yes:

Heb precies dezelfde waarden en data gekopieerd als in de andere FADEC en hij startte meteen in één keer met nauwelijks vlammen, zie filmpje hieronder. Daarna nog 10x start gemaakt, elke keer vlekkeloos. Het verbaast me eigenlijk hoe betrouwbaar deze manier van starten is. Met de gas starts had ik nog wel eens no starts en hot starts door varieerende gas drukken in de fles maar dit gaat iedere keer perfect, echt mooi om te zien.

Misschien deze morgen ook gelijk af testen, dan kan het ook in het model in gebouwd worden, kunnen we weer een hoofdstukje afsluiten. Misschien tóch maar eens verder kijken naar die sterkere motor GR220.......

....heb er eigenlijk wel zin in!

Lang geheim geweest, zwarte magie van de fabrikanten. Goedkoop zijn de keroburners niet, bij jetcat betaal je gauw tegen de 160,- voor een plugje, anderen zijn rond 120,-. Na wat speurwerk een amerikaanse distributeur gevonden: Low Voltage Maar ik heb ze weer elders. Jaap Gaasbeek Modelbouwjets - JPO-Jetproducts repareert deze pluggen en via hem een paar stiftjes kunnen kopen. Daarna ook een kerel in engeland gevonden die ook een stapeltje had liggen dus heb er inmiddels meer dan genoeg.

We are using actually the normal steels tubes but we are trying to make them using your suggest.

GR180 from the frozen north

Hello!

Fist sorry for writing in english, but i have read this thread with great interest as I have built my own version of Geralds mighty turbine. The only difference i made was that the shaft tunnel is from stainless steel ( weight is no issue for me, this engine will not fly).

Made the first starts today, as a turbine rookie this was quite a rush! Have not gone past idle rpm yet. Will need to sort out a wet start issue and get the keroplug finished first. I had a slight rub on the turbine wheel, but that is sorted, for now at least, it will get back with increased rpm I guess.

I used a mix of diesel and kero as fuel (75/25)

This is my first turbine build, very happy that it runs!

The long journey to 120.000 rpm can now start.

Hello everybody, we tryed the new cc made with 5 mm holes like was in the original Project and with 12 needles 0,8 external 0.6 mm internal diameters
This is the result:
Max rpm 60000
Start temp 800 degrees at 44800 rpm
Turbine doesn't make accellerations more than 60000rpm Even if the stick is at max. We made same fotos

You Can see some kero Not burned. What do you thing about?

I don't know much about turbines. But when looking at the pictures. Your burningchamber is not like the specs Gerald made his.

Look at the pictures, copied from page 15 of this thread.
The sticks of geralds chamber are in between of the holes. Yours are in line whit the holes.

Not a Big problem to solve thanck you but I thing that this is not the reason why temp is 800 degrees at idle and rpm doesn't go up. Probably we have to inlarge the holes since 5,5....someone can help?

This is an important item what hoeby mentions, the tubes are now being cooled too much. Not sure if this is the main problem, always difficult to see and tell from a distance. Looking at the inside chamber, front end it for sure lookes like vapourising does not work as it should be, the inside front end appears too clean. Maybe fuel needles are not all touching the air tube walls? Somehow fuel seems to be burning too late, maybe due to bad mixture. Please look at items mentioned here, try again and then we look furter.
