Dear All Just four weeks to go until this event, Yippee. Just recently here in the UK we lost another modelling friend and wonderful human being, Ken Bones. I will make a point of remembering Ken at our remembrance ceremony at mid-day at this event. For this event only the Tibenham bend will be known as the Ken Bones bend plus there will be a warbird slot dedicated to Ken as he was the master of the warbird display. What a loss his passing is to the modelling fraternity, he will be sorely missed by us all. Let's hope he has gone to a better place. To lighten the mood, I thought it might be nice for a couple of youngsters to have the customary opening flight. So Thomas E. and Lee R. will be starting the event with their radial engined Chance Vought Corsairs. Below are two pictures of their respective models. The pictures are courtesy of Kevin Fairgrieve and Mick Wass. As for flypasts, I have been unsuccessful with all my bids to the RAF events team this year. The dreaded RAF events team folded A4 envelope dropped through the door on 3 occasions. Regards Phil G.
Dear All Just two weeks to go until this event. Below are three pictures of models that will be attending this event. All three models belong to Mudders. Here is a piece regarding the real Mosquito. The full-size mossie has an interesting history for us Norfolk boys.... 1942... An interesting aircraft at RAF Marham during this period was Mosquito IV DK296. Delivered to 105 Sqn as GB-K, by September 1942 it had been re-coded GB-G for Sqn Leader DAG (George) Parry, DSO, DFC, who had always used the code “G” on his aircraft. While with 105 Sqn it claimed one bird strike and a chimney pot! It was flown on most operations bt Sqn Ldr Parry including a raid on Gestapo HQ in Oslo on 25th September 1942 and the raid on the Philips factory on 6th December 1942. In mid 1943 Sqn Ldr WW Blessing crash-landed the Mosquito at Marham, breaking its back. DK296 was withdrawn from use on 24th August 1943, rebuilt and placed into store at No 10 Maintenance Unit at Hullavington. In September 1943 it was issued to 305 Ferry Training Unit at Errol, where it was given Russian markings and trained Russian crews who were converting to Albemarles. On 20th April 1944, DK296 was sent to Russia, being officially accepted there on 31st August 1944 and subsequently serving in the Red Air Force. Regards Phil G.
Dear All I am pleased to announce that Nik Coleman, from Nik Coleman television will be attending this event complete with camera. Nik's company was responsible for the Netflix documentary Plane Resurrection. And more recently in collaboration with the Commemorative air force they have made a documentary about a C47 named 'That's All Brother' on D-Day. Below is a Youtube link to a trailer of the program. Apparently they do use models in some of their documentaries. Regards Phil G.
Dear All If anyone is coming to Flying Legends at Duxford, I shall be there on Sunday in the model area with a Sepecat Jaguar, please come and say hello. Detlef K. came and spoke to me last year, what an engineering and modelling genius he is and also a very nice chap. Regards Phil Goff
Dear All The great Tibenham battery charge up has begun. Lancaster = 6 EE Lightning = 3 Spitfire = 3 Foam SE5a = 3 Foam Hurricane = 2 And possibly Sepecat Jaguar = 3 Regards Phil G.
Dear All I hope it is OK to post a link to a facebook video. If it is not let me know and I will remove it. Plane resurrection who normally make real aircraft videos attended this event to try out some new equipment and let the younger members of their team to have a go at filming aircraft all be it model aircraft. Like most people they did not realise how big and sophisticated the models can be and I think they really enjoyed their time with us. They want to come back for the Battle of Britain event at Tibenham which will be held on Friday the 29th of September 2017. We had one loss when Lee R.'s Corsair's wing folded in level flight. I have posted a picture below. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=750928098440754 Regards Phil Goff
