    Hi Alex

habe ein kleines Video vom Twister gemacht ->
    RZhd5-1NvZQ[/media] - Twister DLG

    Hi there

Yes - it's my new Twister and it is really nice.

I've been out and make the first flights, and it looks very promising.

    Best regards

    Hi
After a total lack of radio contact, today my new Twister look like this.

Well I think it can be repaired, but how?

What fiber do I need and how should it be wound on the boom?
Which direction should the fibers lie.
How far past the fracture site should I go with the fibers and how many layers can I develop?
Can Alex or someone else come up with good advice for this repair.

I would say that the Twister is far the best DLG'er I've ever flown, and it can not do to radio failure, but it seemed as I am rather unlucky at the moment.
    regards
    Palle

    Palle,

I gues Alex or Loet will provide repair instructions (you also can consider to go for a new fuse).

Most important is to find the cause of the radio failure. What equipment do you use and how is the antenna positioned in your Twister?

    Hello Palle,

    That doesn't look very nice.
Your'e right it can be repaired.

    Sad Story Pelle.

Once I have repaired a fuse and that was easy.

    - first, make the fuse as straight as possible (using your eyes) and solve the puzzle with the broken fibres. Put them nicely together and fix it using 10 seconds glue (cyano) on some points. Only on some points, lets say 3 all around.
    - then look again. If it is still straight fix the rest of broken fibres with cyano.
    - sand it so the fuse is smooth again.

    Now there are several possibilities.
-I know that one of the Dutch pilots repaired his fuse with kevlar cloth. 1 cm wide and wrapped around the broken part and overlapping for 50%.
-use UD carbon fibres in the length of the fuse and of course all around. I did it like that and the fuse is still OK.
-use carbon cloth and do the same as with the kevlar.

Use 24 hours epoxy to wet the fibres and firmly wrap plastic tape around the fibres. Making it smooth and pressing out the epoxy which is too much.

Follow the link for more (other) information on:
    Wie Kohlerumpf reparieren - RC-Network

It's a pity you don't live close because it is a matter of less than an hour.

    Good luck

    Loet

    Palle,

After al the good advice there is not much to ad anymore. If you want i can send you a litle carbonfibre same as the fuse is made from.

    Additional info.

    - The method used by Frans (first 4 photos) is perfect for fuses having fishing rods, but can not be used for a Twister because this fuse it is not perfectly round inside.
    - I should prefer a full carbon repair using UD carbon fibers and not using Kevlar (a carbon repair looks much better on a carbon fuse). The Kevlar repair Loet refers to was made during a contest where no other material was available.
    - For alignment I use medium cyano and for the final fixation I use thin cyano.
    - If a fuse breaks it fails on the side that is under pressure. A fuse repaired with cyano can withstand pressure but can not withstand tensile (Note: make absolutely sure that no parts are missing in the broken fuse, especially at the side of the fuse that is under pressure during launch). The main (but not the only) function of the layers you add during the repair is to withstand tensile. This is why the thickness of the repair can be less than the thickness of the fuse, but better a layer too much…….
    - The required width of the repair depends on the thickness of the repair and on how good the repair attaches to the fuse, how thicker the repair and how worst the attachment how bigger the overlap should be (if the overlap is big enough the additional layers breaks on tensile before sheared from the fuse). If more layers are used start with the smaller ones and end with the bigger ones.
    - Finally make sure that no sharp edges are inside the repaired fuse that can damage your Dynema.

    Hello
Thanks for all the good advice.:worship:
I will start the repair today so it can fly again.

I also have to solved the problem with the radio.

I use a Schulze 8.35 receiver, which I've used in another model without problems for over a year.
I chose this particular receiver because it has always worked well.
The antenna is outside on the underside of the boom, as I have it on all my models.
Of course, some 12 cm of the antenna is running inside the body, before it comes out, but that is like that on all my models and it gives no problems.

Should I try to extend the antenna with 12 cm to see if it can make a difference?

I will of course ad a new receiver before I fly again.

After the radio failure with the Twister, I flew for 2.5 hours with my other models and then everything worked fine, so it's not in my transmitter the problem is.

    Alex
Thanks for your offer, it is very nice of you, but I have material so I can make the repair.
PS. Have you received the package from me?

    Best regards

    Palle,

Over here we mostly let the antenna run through the boom and extend it with enamelled copperwire and let it run out the boom at the back. This way the antenna is running completly in free air nowere to be shielded by carbon fibre.

    Yes i got your package.

    Hi Palle,

already repaired the fuse (and was the repair power-launch proof)?

    Best regards,
