    Thanks Jan!
Indeed these bulkheads were ideal for the servo mount.

    Thank you Jan!
Maybe next weekend we can install the deck...but first I should to cut the upper deck to have access to the motor and use something for floatation as you did in your wild thing.

We installed a new larger rudder at the same price from AE.

I think that is large enough to steer properly.

These rudders look they are super cavitating, since they are wedge schaped and have a sharp trailing edge.
Just like the used surface propellers!
Sweet, never noticed that (since I run boats with no physical rudder :D )

Nice job I was thinking; it must be quite difficult for your sons to have the patience to finish and run their boats! It's not like a Lego kit, which you can finish in max a few days

Thank you both guys! Indeed it is a difficult patience lesson for their age but they do well until now (of course there are sometimes that they start laughing and playing around and at this moment I know that we have to stop)

Moreover, we made a deal at the beginning of the project that they will not nag me to finish the project soon ;).

By the way, the hardest part is when we have to wait for a necessary gear from China !!

Goodmorning rc friends from rainny Greece!

Part 2 of the mini Wild Thing construction series is on Youtube.

This time, I let my kids do some wood work completely on their own.

Of course, all the cuts were made by me for safety reasons, but measurement and gluing were done by them (see the attached video after ~ 05:30).

Videotaping, editing and english subtitles by my 10 years old son.

Thank you Jan ! It is great but it requires more patience than usually... Their mom is also happy as she finds some free time for herself...

We also managed to glue the deck today...

    Hi Dim,

Purely from a competition raceboat perspective (which run right hand turns only), the servo horn on the rudder should be on the right hand side, so the rod is pulling the rudder when turning right, instead of pushing, which always has the risk of flutter, when there's a little slop, or the rod is thin enough to bend under the pressure.
If the boat is fast enough (with very little hull in the water) this can even cause a crash, as the rudderblade is very important to keep the boat 'anchored' running in a straight line.

When running for fun, it's no big deal, but all my competition boats (even the 50 cm ones) have the rudderhorn on the right.

Nice to see your sons having so much fun 'building' their boats!

    Regards, Jan.

Jan, thank you so much for your comment and your tips!
I would have never thought of this detail, but you are absolutely right.
Now it seems a little bit difficult to reconstruct the steering system, but I will definitely consider your advice. Racing or not it is always nice to improve the functionality and safety of your boat.

    kindest regards,
    Dimitris

    You're welcome.

When I started racing in competition, I found out the hard way there's a right way of attaching the rudder horn and a 'not so right way', when my boat made very sloppy turns around the triangular course (30 x 30 x 30 m) and I could not keep up with the other boats due to this poor steering behaviour, which forced me to slow down for each turn, in order to get around the marker halfway decent.

One of the experienced boaters pointed out my building error. I corrected it before the next race event and didn't have right hand steering issues anymore.

As I raced together with my son, younger, better hand eye coordination, it still took me years to win a championchip, as I usually came in second or third, behind my son...

    Regards, Jan.
