Indeed, the tail plane and vertical fin look really small. Normally the surfaces are 10-20% enlarged wrt the original model to increase flying characteristics.

Another question: are you sure the lower wing is strong enough? It only has a balsa upper and lower spar as far as I can see. During touchdown the impact on the wing can be very high.
Just my ideas...
 
The "AMSOIL" Racer is in facts an enlarged "Quickie" ... and most "Quickie" models fly excelent with a scale-size rudder (you can still fly them, even when the tail is missing ;-))
 
it is still a really good looking plane!

Are you planning to put any decals or registration on the fuselage/wing?
