Battle of Britain Commemorative scale model event Tibenham airfield 25/9/15

Dear All

I am pleased to announce that we will be holding

A 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain Commemorative Event,
which will be an any Scale/Warbird/Jet meet at Tibenham Airfield on Friday the 25th of September 2015.
Scale Aerobatic will also be welcome, scale foamies are also welcome.

By kind permission of the Norfolk Gliding Club

Three (smooth) tarmac runways in various directions

There is a charge for the use of the Airfield, so unfortunately I will have to charge entrants a fee.

Pilots TBA
Helpers/Guests £2
No charge fo over seas visitors

A one minute silence will be held at midday for the fallen from all sides.

Proof of BMFA or LMA insurance will need to be provided on the day.

Food, Drink, Bar and Toilet facilities are available at the club house.
The Battle of Britain Ball will be held in the Clubhouse in the evening.

The Battle of Britain commemorative trophy will be awarded for best flight or most outstanding achievement. Last year it was jointly awarded to Dennis Richardson and Jon Nicol.
The trophy was very kindly donated by my good friends Nigel and Carol Wagstaff of Flightline Graphics.

How good would it be if we could get all the protagonists in the air together.

Home team
Spitfire
Hurricane
Defiant
Blenheim (Also used as a fighter)
Beaufighter
Gladiator

Away team
Messerschmitt 109E
Messerschmitt 110 'Zerstorer'
Junkers 87 'Stuka'
Junkers 88
Dornier DO 17
Heinkel HE111

Italian (Away team)
BR.20 Stork
Fiat CR.42 Falco
Fiat G.50 Freccia
CANT Z.1007 Kingfisher
Caproni Ca.133

The Italian aircraft might be a bit obscure,.
But the rest we might have a sporting chance with.
How good would that be.

Please post on this thread if interested.
If you could also post some pictures of the models that you intend to bring to the event that would be nice.

Caravan and camping facilities are available at Tibenham airfield.

I have requested a flypast by some RAF assets
Hopefully we will beat the WW2 fighter Balbo record, which stands at 11.
We had a Heyford and a Gladiator in lasts years Balbo.

Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

Thank you.

Dear All
Here is a picture of Tibenham airfield from the air.
As you can see there are three (smooth) runways in various directions.

The second picture is of a BH Hawker Typhoon just as the sun is
starting to fade. You can just imagine it returning from Falaise.

Dear All
As this is a Bob thread we had better have some Spitfires.
This picture is of two Yellow aircraft Spitfires taken at last years Bob event.

The second picture is of Two Lancasters and a Spitfire.
The two Lancasters were a tribute to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
and the Canadian Warplane Heritage. They operate the only two airworthy
Lancasters in the World.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage flew their Lanc over from Canada to the UK last year. What a sight and sound that was to have two Lancs in the air together.

Dear All
Some more pictures from last years Bob event.
If you look closely at the B17 picture you can see that it
has got two engines out on the same side. The Pilot did
very well to get it down in one piece.

I was sent these pictures of two 1/4 scale BP Deviants

by my good friend Dickie Scarbrough. It would be fantastic to have
both of these Deviants at this event. They did not last long in the
Battle of Britain, once the German pilots learned that they had no
front firing armament they were almost sitting ducks.

They were then withdrawn and used in a night fighter role.

Sorry about the multiple copies and no spaces between the pictures.
I can't seem to sort that out. In fact I keep making it worse.

Dear All
Just 7 weeks to go until this event now, yippee.
Martin B. has almost completed the painting of Maurice H.'s Magnificent
P51D 'Marinell' which we modellers had commissioned.
So everything is in order on that front.

I believe prints will be made available of this painting
if anyone is interested in that.

Two motor-homes are booked in already.
So lets hope we have a good turnout and some good weather.

Regards Phil G.

Dear Ramses
Thank you for at least considering to attend this event.
I don't really expect anyone from Holland to attend
due to the cost and traveling distance.

I posted it here more in hope than expectation.

Regards Phil G.

Dear All
Just under three weeks to go now until this event.

I received a nice photo from Mudders this aftenoon
of the progress of his Spitfire. I think you might agree it
looks very nice indeed. You can never have too many Spitfires.
I feel a Spitfire only slot coming on.

The Spirit of Coltishall Association will be conducting the remembrance ceremony
to make it a bit more formal. All being well we will have a trumpeter, a lone piper
and the honour guard as we did last year.

Henning Wehn, the German comedy ambassador to the UK has also been invited.
I have not received word yet to confirm that he will be attending.

As an aside it is just two weeks to go until the superb Osbournby event.

Regards Phil G.

Dear All
Things are starting to ramp up.
Mudders has sent me two more pictures of his superb Spitfire.

The German comedy ambassador to the UK Henning Wehn
is hoping to be able to attend.

Jon N. our German modelling friend is considering a blitz visit.
to attend this event plus see a Henning Wehn performance in Norwich
on the Saturday evening.

Dave Johnson and Paul Needham have this evening confirmed their attendance.
Both will be arriving Thursday evening.

Paul is bringing his Wellington plus others.
Dave is bringing his 10 foot Vulcan, large EE Lightning and Wellington.

Dave had promised me that one day he would attend one of my events,
lets hope we get some good weather and this year he will be able to fulfill his promise.

I am getting excited now.

Regards Phil G.

Dear All
Better late than never, I would like to thank all those who attended this event last Friday.
I have said this many times before, I can put these events on but if you good people
did not take days off and travel great distances to attend there would be no event full stop.

As always thank you very much for that, I/we do appreciate it.

I would like to thank my helpers, they are as follows.

Muffler
Dibble
Clive
Tony C.

I would also like to thank these people and groups

The Norfolk Gliding Club

Alan Bithrey (Pupcam) Trumpeter

The Spirit of Coltishall Association
Dave Welsh Master of ceremonies
John Welton Lone Piper
Derek ? Standard bearer

The Battle of Britain memorial flight
Spitfire MKII Flt.Lt. Antony Parkinson

Hardwick Warbirds
P51D Mustang 'Marinell' Maurice Hammond

Pitts Special Sqn.Ldr. (RAF Rtr) Steve Brownlow

Flightline Graphics, sponsors of the Battle of Britain Commemorative Trophy,
Which this year was awarded to the Spirit of Coltishall Association.

And last but not least Martin Bleasby (Guild of aviation artists)
For the magnificent painting of 'Marinell'.
Maurice seemed delighted with his painting.

And just to bring this to a close.
We had an incident where a model taxied into another model.
The person who suffered very minor damage over reacted to the situation.

I have now received an apology from that person
as has the other person involved in the incident.
So as far as I am concerned the matter is now closed.

Thank you all once again.

PS. If anyone is receiving emails purportedly from me please
don't click on the links as it seems my email has been hacked.

This event was to remember the courage, bravery and sacrifice
of those young boys, and now a days people take pleasure
in hacking peoples emails. I sometimes wonder what they fought for.
