Well, Jan I think that one thing that you should definitely change is this sailing pond... ...Amazing speed for a diy hull, congratulations.

If I recall correctly the changes with respect to your previous record are:
1. Finished bottom,
2. Different prop,
3. 1mm pushing down the stringer.

Do you believe that there is room for going faster? E.g. by changing the turn fins' angle?

[emoji106] Dim. When I think about it, I changed 3 parameters: bottom hull finish, prop and rudder alignment.
Looking at the transom, the rudder blade was not perpendicular to the water. Just a few degrees off, which sometimes gave strange running behavior, such as leaning to the right side all the time. First I thought it was a weight distribution issue, but when I looked closely to the rudder blade, this became the number one suspect [emoji3].

I corrected the rudder blade angle before the Powerboats meeting, but the water conditions were so rough I couldn't really notice the difference.
Yesterday I immediately noticed the hull runs nice and straight and doesn't lean to one side anymore. It must contribute to higher speeds as well.

The 1mm down trim is a to-do for the next run, because the Wild Thing ran too loose and flipped twice.

I think with the 44mm 1.6 pitch prop I could get a few km/h more by longer wide open throttle. The 45mm 1.9 pitch prop might be even faster, but it is a lot of prop for my high rpm setup, so I have to be careful when I try that one.

Next run I will try the 443 prop which gave 102 km/h speed. Let's see if it has increased by a finished bottom hull and aligned rudder blade.

Vandaag gevaren. De eerste run met de Youme lipo en de 443 prop. Nu met afgewerkte onderromp en een recht roerblad haalde ik 97 km/u. Dat is 5 km/u sneller dan voorheen [emoji106]

Deze keer op een grotere plas gevaren. Met de 446 prop en de CNHL lipo haalde ik 113 km/u. Maar de Wild Thing is op hoge snelheid wel instabiel. Hij heeft last van propwalk en chinewalk. Daarom ga ik de trim tabs erop zetten. Eens zien wat dat brengt.

I saw the short video on YouTube and the new pond seems longer but also narrower. In one of your crashes I thought it will land on the coast and indeed the boat seems to dive a lot. I am curious about the trim tabs in terms of both speed and handling.

Thank you Dim [emoji106]. This pond is bigger and wider, but I had to run at the narrow end due to other guys fishing. I asked them if they didn't mind me running my boat and luckily they didn't. But I stayed at the left side of the pond.
Hopefully next time, I can use the bigger side as well. You can see it in the video below.

I did run too close to the shore and one time the Wild Thing flipped from the water onto the shore. Luckily no damage! I'm actually surprised also by the wooden rudder bracket, taking all those beatings.

I had to take out my rescue boat as well one time. Worked like a charm [emoji41][emoji106]

Je reddingsboot was mijn tweede RC speedboot als tiener. Veel plezier aan beleeft. Inmiddels in het bezit van een Robbe verzamelaar!

Unusual: ja, de Eco Star is al een oudje. Ik dacht al langer aan een ophaalboot, nu de snelheden omhoog gaan en de crashes en flips dus ook [emoji28]. In plaats van een complete zelfbouw, heb ik de Eco Star van zolder gepakt en deze in een half uurtje vaarklaar gemaakt en omgetoverd tot ophaalboot.

Kind of close for some part, but not the turbine [emoji28].
The new project will be built using a different technique and it is a collaboration with a very experienced designer and manufacturer, also active on this forum. I will post this evening.

My dream is a turbine (or scale V8, no not the Toyan)!
The gearbox necessary to make the rpm usable for a boat (or turboprop plane) is often more expensive than the turbine itself.

I have seen a German modeler who build a twin turbine catamaran RC...€20K +

So I keep on dreaming

In Hank afgelopen april was er ook een twin turbine catamaran met transfer box en props van een Duitse vaarder. Ik heb hem zien draaien op de kant; erg indrukwekkend!

De Wild Thing heb ik voorzien van trim tabs. Ik ken de 2 kampen van voor- en tegenstanders [emoji28] Ik ben erg benieuwd of ik de propwalk ermee terug kan dringen en wat het effect is op de topsnelheid. Hopelijk aankomend weekend kan ik ze proberen.

Het is een krappe bedoeling aan de rechterkant. Het roer zit eigenlijk te laag en daardoor moest ik een stuk van de trimtab steun afveilen.

Ondertussen heb ik 5 lipo's gevaren met de trimtabs gemonteerd. Ze geven zeker een stabieler vaargedrag; de romp ligt vaster op het water. Maar als je ze gelijk legt met het water, remmen ze ook wel degelijk. Dat had ik ook wel verwacht eigenlijk..

Ik ben nog druk aan het testen met propjes, trim tab afstelling, zwaartepunt etc. Ik leer er veel van en heb er ook veel lol in. Ondertussen heeft de romp al talloze zware klappers gemaakt. Na elke run check ik de romp op beschadigingen, haarscheurtjes etc. Gelukkig geeft de romp geen krimp [emoji106].

Helaas heb ik wel de houten roersteun gebroken. Als ik zie wat die steun al overleefd heeft, voordat deze eindelijk brak.. boven verwachting [emoji28]. Ik ben nu bezig met een aluminium versie.

Dat is het nadeel van flips waarbij de hele boot los komt; de impact is willekeurig en bijna altijd onder een hoek waar de constructie niet op berekend is...
Je hebt groter vaarwater nodig, want hier zijn de vol gas runs maar een paar secondes lang, de boot krijgt amper de gelegenheid tot rust te komen en snelheid op te bouwen.

Wel indrukwekkend snel voor dit formaat boot!

Dat is zeker waar Jan, zo heb ik met mijn F1 tunnel ook al 2 stuurservo's gesloopt, omdat de buitenboordmotor een optater kreeg van de impact op het water.

Gelukkig heb ik de romp stevig gebouwd. En wat betreft het vaargedrag, vaart hij mooier met een kleinere prop en dus lagere snelheid. Maar ik vind het ook weer een uitdaging om er zoveel mogelijk snelheid uit te halen met mijn budget setup.

Een grotere vaarplas, ik ben recent juist 'geupgrade' naar deze plas [emoji28]. Tot in het smalle deel is de plas ca 200m lang. Mijn snelheidsrecord van 114km/u heb ik.zelfs op de kleinere plas gehaald. Maar meer ruimte is altijd beter!

De nieuwe roersteun is klaar. Ik heb hem gemaakt met standaard gereedschap: een ijzerzaag, boor, vijl en schuurpapier. Ik heb hem tot 2000 grit geschuurd en toen gepolijst.

Het roer zit nu 2cm verder achter de boot. Daardoor komt die nu achter de prop te zitten. Hopelijk geeft dat een beter stuurgedrag. Dit weekend testen.
