Ι replaced the teflon tube with an approximately 4 x 5 brass tube which I bended it relatively easily by hand using the inner of the leg as a driver. I like it very much, let's if it is beneficial in terms of durability along with the new motor. IMG_20211217_115832.jpg

I designed a new cowl for the mini outboard to cover the bigger motor.

I also cut the ribs to see if it is worth proceeding to the construction.

Nice work Dim! I would just make it a bit less wide, same as the cockpit cowl.

I thought of making another cowl as well for my Cozy F1, as my motor now sticks out, which is quite ugly and unrealistic.

Thanks Jan! You are talking about the last photo aren't you. I know that it seems quite wide but it's the angle of the photo. In fact the max width of the cover is only few mm wider than the cowl. I can always make it a bit narrower by slightly sanding;).

It's a bit oversized at all dimensions but fortunately foam and balsa are sanded easily.;)

Bytheway I have uploaded some pictures of the new 4-stroke racing mercury that I tried to reproduce. This engine replaces the 2-stroke outboard and it has almost 90% lower co2 emissions than the 2—stroke but also 360 ps instead of 450 ps. As you can see the 4-stroke is quite bigger (and also heavier I think) and also looks oversized on the f1 hull.

Nice duplicate and background info. On one side it is too bad that they will replace the 2 stroke 6 cilinder engines. The sound is awesome. But I read they consume 110 liters per hour . For the environment the 4 stroke is better. Much different look with such a big unit behind the boat. I see those behind catamarans often as well.

Thanks guys. After a 2nd round of sanding the cowl is much smaller but the motor still fits in:yes:. I leave the details for tomorrow with clear mind (and eyes :hammer:). Then I will follow Jan's method. Laminating with cloth and epoxy resign and then cutting the cover along the y axis (not x as Jan) because of the shape of the cover and finally cleaning the foam from the inside. Hopefully I will find a way of securing the cover on the leg. IMG_20211218_212902.jpg

The 2 stroke are so fuel hungry, but they are lighter and more powerful. I read that now the F1 top speed will be 225 km/h instead of 250 km/h if I am not wrong.
However, I think that we are not that far away from pure electric outboards in f1 racing, then we will be even more scale ;).

First, I drew some guidelines to help me with the symmetry of the cowl.
    IMG_20211219_084423.jpg

    IMG_20211219_084433.jpg

Then I decided to sculpt the cowl even more to give a more realistic shape.
    IMG_20211219_151218.jpg

    IMG_20211219_151239.jpg

Then I glued the mold on a piece of plywood and I prepared a piece of 110 gr/m2 cloth using my newly bought rotary cutter (thank you Jan for that)
    IMG_20211219_153345.jpg
    IMG_20211219_153640.jpg

I applied a coat of epoxy resign and I left it for about 20 minutes to become sticky and I applied the cloth. IMG_20211219_154424.jpg IMG_20211219_161930.jpg

It was impossible to cover cowl with one piece of cloth so I decided to apply only on the two sides and the top. I wore latex gloves and I carefully made sure that the cloth is glued on the surface applying pressure by hand.
Next I will trim the extra fiber and I will continue with the rest of the surfaces.

I am planning to apply 3 layers of fiber for the mold and then I will split the mold into two equal pieces. I will use each of these to make the two pieces of the cowl and then I will glue these two halfs together to make the cowl. The reason to do that is because I want to re-use the mold to make more cowls (maybe for diy outboard).

Thank you for patience my post was too thorough. I also send you a photo from the snowy lake (yes it snows in Greece:))

Zo te zien vaart de boot er erg snel bij, ideaal lijkt mij dit niet.
Ik denk niet dat je nog een bocht kan maken met alleen de prop in het water
