Voor de topsnelheid wel en daar zal het vast om te doen zijn. Net als bij ons modelbouwers, zijn er met 1:1 boten ook speed-junkies die een snelheidsrecord proberen neer te zetten voor hun romp / klasse / aandrijving

Some progress with the outboard cover.
I cut the mold in half using a saw and two drivers
    IMG_20211223_130901.jpg

    IMG_20211223_131619.jpg

I added 2mm balsa to increase the width of the mold and offset for the width of the saw blade.
    IMG_20211223_131901.jpg

I glued the two halves on two pieces of plywood and the I laminated with 50 gr fiber.

Good morning. Some progress with the outboard cover. I didn t have pva and I used Vaseline after 5 layers of wax.
    IMG_20211228_124721.jpg

I applied 4 layers of 50 gr fiber so as to be able to reproduce the shape of the mold easily.
    IMG_20211228_161503.jpg

The result is satisfactory. There is enough space for the big motor and I think the outboard looks nice and modern.
    IMG_20211229_073418.jpg

    IMG_20211229_073538.jpg

Next steps. Making the other half, glue the halves with epoxy, sanding the whole cover, laminating the whole cover with extra fiber and epoxy resign.

Ps. Vaseline did not work very well. Next time I will buy pva.
    Thanks guys.

Great Dim Are you going to laminate the other layers from inside now? With 2 halves that's easy and you keep the smooth outside finish.
I applied 6 layers of 80 gr/m2 glass cloth: 480 grams thickness in total. The cover is still a little flexible, but definitely strong enough.

And how are you going to mount it to the leg? With screws on the side?

Thanks Alex and Jan. Indeed it came out well I didn't expect that at the beginning of the project.
You are absolutely right Jan. I just laminated the inside of the cover with a number (7 or 8 I think) of 200 gr carbon fiber pieces that I had. The pieces overlap with each other and I used different directions for each fiber to strengthen the cover. IMG_20211229_122137.jpg

Thanks a lot. This is true ;)! The cover has become very strong and stiff. It doesn t bend at all.

Hello guys and happy and healthy 2022. My 3rd run with Cosy today and first time at the sea. The weather was quite windy but fortunately I had the opportunity to sail the boat at the local small seaport which is protected from big waves. The setup has changed, the outboard is lower and the motor is the 2842 Turnigy Aquastar 2800 kv with 3300 3s lipo. Unfortunately my GPS was all wet and stopped working (hopefully it will work again when it dries).

I was not full throttle because I was afraid of flipping over. When I decided to fast against the wind we had an impressive 360 backwards flip:D
    .

I still think the the propeller captivates and the acceleration is not satisfactory. A photo with the set up of the outboard. IMG_20220102_120153.jpg

Is it still too high or the propeller too small?

Lucky save on that flip! Regarding the cavitation, did you sharpen the prop? If not, that must be the reason.

It runs good already, on the sea it is difficult to judge if the hull runs stable, due to the tide. A tunnel hull is probably the most difficult hull to setup correctly. Just keep tweaking and it will only get even better!

Prop height is difficult to see, but it should be in line with the sponson bottom and from there you can make small adjustments. In my case, the prop center is 2mm above the sponson bottom, but I run a 36mm prop.
By the way, i guess you know already, but salt water requires a good rinse of the hull and outboard!

Thank you Jan. Yes I was very lucky, but to be honest we (me and kids) enjoyed that take off... :). I sharpened the propeller but not very thoroughly, I ll do it when I get the balancer.
I ve already wash the hull and watercooling system with water and the inner of the outboard and water cooling system also with wd-40 spray.
Now I want to finish the outboard cover and construct a new mounting system for the outboard because it doesn't fit at the back of the boat with the new bigger cowl.

    Hi Dim.
    Looks pretty cool .
I think the outboard is a bit high.
What Jan said little tweaks make the hull go better.
    Only will go better .

Thanks Alex! It may still be a bit high, I agree.
In the new mounting system I should consider making the holes at the right shape/size to have more space for fine tuning!

Personally I feel like Dirk-Jan suggested. The prop gets too much water to process so motor-rpms stay too low (motor and ESC have to work too hard). The outboard-unit has to move a little up.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. It s more a trial and error process so it will take some time to find the optimal set up I guess.

This is a first try of building a bigger aluminum mounting basis for the mini tfl outboard using a simple aluminum welding approach (Mapp gas torch and aluminum welding rods). If the welding succeeds it is quite strong but this is not easy (e.g. The left arms is not welded well while the right is super strong)

I used 7 layers of wax and 3 pva films but still I didn't take off the cover easily. You can see the spots of the black paint of the mold on the left cover. I am wondering if I do sth wrong.
