MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - A 15-year-old boy from the Urals suffered acute frostbite after riding the wing of a Boeing-737 plane on a two-hour flight from Perm to Moscow, Russian radio station Mayak reported on Monday.

After clinging on for the entire 1300-kilometer (808-mile) flight to Vnukovo Airport, the boy, named Andrei, collapsed onto the tarmac. His arms and legs were so severely frozen that rescuers were at first unable to remove his coat and shoes, the radio station said.

The airport did not confirm the report. "We have no information on this," the Vnukovo press service told RIA Novosti.

However, Moscow's air and water transport control department said the radio's claim was true. A department spokesman said the incident occurred on Friday, and that the boy's parents were immediately informed, and flew to the capital the same day.

Doctors said it was nothing short of a miracle that Andrei survived the flight, with temperatures hitting minus 50 degrees Celsius (-58 Fahrenheit), the radio station said. The Boeing-737 has a cruising speed of 900 kmh (560 mph).

The boy reportedly made the journey after a commonplace domestic dispute. Angry with his father, who reportedly has a drinking problem, and with his mother for siding with her husband in family rows, Andrei ran away to the neighboring village, where his grandmother lives. On reaching the village, he decided to go on, and hitched a 220-km (137-mile) ride to the regional center, Perm, where he was dropped off at the airport.

It remains unclear how Andrei was able to climb on a plane wing un-noticed, and the Perm Airport security service is being asked some serious questions, the radio station said.

Andrei is now being treated in a Moscow hospital, Radio Mayak said.

Onderaan het artikel staan nog twee opvolgingsartikelen, volgens het laatste artikel zou hij zich verstopt hebben in het landingsgestel.

Voor mij heeft hij toch in ieder geval een eervolle vermelding bij de Darwin Awards verdiend :mrgreen:
 
Moet wel. Er zijn wel meer verhalen geweest over mensen die bij het landingsgestel in gekropen zouden zijn, echter daar wordt altijd bij aangegeven dat als je al niet doodgaat bij het inklappen ervan, dat je wel doodvriest.
 
Groter probleem is luchtdruk:

737, zeg ff cruise op FL 320 "useful consciousness " is iets van 20 seconden. Daarna bewusteloosheid en als je het overleefd "hersendood". Een vlucht van 2 uur zo overleven....?? 8O . enuh -60 is ook geen lachertje.
 
Dit is wel vaker gebeurt, alleen heb ik nog nooit gehoord dat iemand het heeft overleeft.
Bij het uitklappen van de wielen vallen ze er doorgaans uit omdat ze bevroren zijn.
Geen idee hoe het toeven is in zo`n wielkast :wink:
 
bij bv. een 747 zijn alle wielen compleet beschermd
maar bij een 737 is het hoofdlandingsgestel niet
helemaal bedekt, het buitenste stuk wiel is nog steeds
"blootgesteld aan de elementen", de jongen was
waarschijnlijk wel enigzins beschermd tegen de wind
maar niet tegen de verschrikkelijk lage temperaturen

In Zaventem kwamen ze zo vroeger regelmatig aan, netjes bevroren als fishsticks. ;)
Daar kwam een einde aan toen de groundcrews in Zaire/Congo de landingsgestellen begonnen te controleren bij de pre flight check.

Ik denk dat deze jongen - als het verhaal waar is - gewoon geluk heeft gehad dat de vlucht niet té lang duurde en dat zijn lichaam waarschijnlijk in een soort coma gegaan is door onderkoeling en dat het daardoor maar heel weinig zuurstof nodig had.
Er zijn veel gevallen bekend waar het slachtoffer succesvol gereanimeerd werd na lang in ijswater gelegen te hebben.
 
Waarom is het zo koud in zon landingsgestel dan?
Komt dat omdat de lucht er zo snel onderdoorgaat oid?

In de ruimte waar het landingsgestel ingaat is geen verwarming. Buitentemperatuur op zo'n hoogte is dan al snel -60 graden.

Commander Clumsy heeft het juiste woord : "bevroren als fishsticks" :-)
