Hartelijk dank

This is a cool thread!
My Dad won the 1971 North-South Meet at Famoso field with his all-stock Monterey - covered in gold Solarfilm. My first two-channel gliders were a Malibu and a Monterey. The Monterey was my first competition sailplane - about 1972. It was red and yellow with - at the urging of my Dad - the word "Shazam!" on the wing. It's probably still in the rafters of his garage.
This was a great flying airplane built stock, but the club we were members of at that time (the San Fernando Valley Silent Flyers) already had plenty of "Super" versions of the Monterey, most notably those by Bill Watson and another by the Hamlin brothers. It's hard to remember who did what, but some of the mods (as I remember them) were:
These models were quite formidable on the competition scene in those days. It should be noted that Roland and Bob Boucher were members of the SFVSF as well.
I'll look for some old pics and post them if I can find any - or perhaps dig up the old models, take some new pics and post those too.
Kind regards,
Stan
