Viking Models Facctor

I'm building a Viking Models Facctor sailplane. I cut the long nose and added a firewall for an electric motor. I am using a different flying stabilizer from the plans, and have added flaps.

The first photo is the modified Facctor fuselage in box with the rest of the kit.

The second photo is my collection of noses from the sailplanes I electrified: Multiplex Flamingo, Viking Facctor, Graupner Cirrus.

The fuselage is almost ready for paint.

Here are the wings and stabilizer. The wings have varnish, the ailerons and flaps do not. The flap and aileron on the left wing are reversed in the photo. Oops.

I am interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with the Facctor. It seems to be a very rare model.

Looking nice, but this is the first time i see this model. The fuselage looks very interesting with its sharp fast lines. Hopefully some of the other members can share their expierences.

The Vintage Flamingo is still on my whish list :).

Interesting plane, especially the large sweepback on the tail fin LE is striking. I like the varnish on the wings. How are you going to treat the ailerons and elevators?

Nice project Roger. Interesting plane too, although i have never heard of it. What kind of airfoil does it have?
Off topic: i just acquired a brand new unbuild Flamingo contest, thinking of putting a motor in it too....
Varnish on the wings looks very good indeed. I should try that one one of my projects! Regards Maarten

The Facctor is about the same age as the Flamingo. I got it from a friend in the late 70s in return for building a Facctor for him. The original design used the canopy as a speed brake, and the wing tips were cut on a diagonal. I kept the wings on my Facctor rectangular, because I could not bear to throw away so much wing area. I think it uses the Eppler 387 airfoil, but I am not certain.

I am varnishing the wings, ailerons, flaps, and stab. The rudder will be painted. I plan to add some color trim to the top wings and stab to match the color of the tail. The under side of the wings will need color stripes to help with viability. I love the beautiful wood grain on the wings, and don't want to destroy it with too much paint. If anyone has photos of some color trim on wood grain wings, I would love to see them.

I just saw an old advertisement for the Facctor. It said the Facctor uses an Eppler 193 airfoil. My Facctor seems to have a lot more undercamber near the trailing edge than the E193. That is why I thought the airfoil was an E387.

I made a (blurry) picture last weekend in Germany at the Intermodellbau exhibition. Some nice gliders from the Art Hobby stand. All wood covered wings with painted color trims. Very nice indeed!

The blue 2.5m Serenity sheme is my favorit! ;)

I like the Serenity as well, but I think the blue of the Orion paint scheme would be almost as nice, and a lot easier to do.

I finally finished the Facctor. I used auto touch up paint from a spray can for the fuselage, and trim monokote on the wings and stab. I think she looks pretty good for a 35 year old kit.
