Single Channel Gliders

What I would like to ask is whether anyone knows of any 'vintage' single channel R/C glider design/plans and possibly images?

I am involved with a group who are (possibly insane:D) doing this for fun and reviving the old single channel bang-bang designs and I am taking on the glider section.
We're using modern 2.4GHz 'hack' modules and an emulator to generate the correct PPM stream for the Tx modules.
The power part of the website is

www.singlechannel.co.uk

So what I would like is, if possible, some Dutch designs to go with the British, American, French and German that I have information on already. I would prefer plans built rather than kit designs. There must have been a few very popular designs from the 1960s and early 70s? I am NOT trying to get hold of plans (except in a few nostalgic cases for personal use only), but more to know what these designs are called, size, designer, an image would be nice as well as whether they are still available and from where.

great :) well i can't help you with your query directly but i have designed and flown a
2 axis motorglider which was thus stable that it could be flown rudder-only just fine,
and it was a great experience doing so indeed. (it was totally freeflight stable)

The Greenhorn, a 2,5 meter glider from 1979 will fly well on 1 axis.
I built it in the early 80's
There is a simple plan in the 1979 KNvvL

I found a plan of a small 48 " power assisted sailplane. Designed by David Boddington in 1968.
The name of this plane is "Apprentice" and single channel RC. It looks very nice.
If you like I'll make a photograph of this plan.

What is KNvvL? Is it available to view online?

JHvdK
Yes please to the Apprentice (a scan would be better?) as I built one as my first RC glider, I managed to destroy it before I got the hang of S/C flying. By about the third rebuild I almost had it under control about half of the time!
As a side note Dave Boddington passed away last year, a big shame as he was one of the best model designers.

Thanks

Funny . . . :)

All the sailplanes my father (and me!) build when I was young (long, long time ago), were zero channel. 8)

I suppose, they will do fine with the very light single channel equipment of nowadays . . .

Good luck! :p

@GeeW
I'm afraid I cannot make a scan from my plan. But perhaps it's possible to send you a copy.
Lately I bought a small brushless outrunner and 350 mAh Lipo battery to drive this little APPRENTICE to fly in calm conditions.

For the dutch readers a photograph. RC is a galloping ghost control.

I also forgot to say, if anyone would like a copy of any of the designs listed I would be happy to, in some cases, e-mail them over or put them in touch with who can supply a copy.
RCM&E has also given us permission to use their old S/C articles etc to promote single channel again.:D

You can better look for the SAM. In Germany, Italy and chech republik there is a very big group off antique modelbuilders.
The SAM group has this year a major competition in europe, but on this moment I do not know where. I will inform with me American flying budy where this years competition will be.

My flying budy is flying the Grosse Winkler and the Icarus in this competition and in the Half A texaco electric he is flying the Rambler and in the half A texaco he is flying the Mss America.

In the UK there is chapter 35 from the SAM http://www.sam35.org/

Still looking for something Dutch.

The French loved Jean Guillemard'z "DAD" and Francis Plessier's "Mickey"

We Brits loved Eric Cluttons "Sharkface", Peter Hollands "Timber" and the "Wizard of Oz" glider by James H. Osborne or if you would like a V tail single channel glider then the "Moonbeam 2" by John Kay is the way to go! (good fun on an escapement to set up I would think?)

For the Americans, Hal deBolts "Live Wire" was a must unless you wanted a powered glider then the "Nomad" by Ted Strader was very popular, first published in 1961 and surprisingly the kit is still in production and available today! Now electric and 2 channel.
see House of Balsa Inc. - Store

The Amigo I and also II were certainly flown Single Channel. (I'm restoring a II at the moment).
