The ship was launched on 7 June 1906
On 27 June 1907, ++++++++ started acceptance trials
She achieved a speed of 26 Knots over a measured mile loaded to a draught of 33 feet, and managed 26.5 knots over a 60 mile course drawing 31.5 feet.
Over a 300 mile run she managed 25.4 knots and could stop in 4 minutes using reversed engines from a speed of 23 knots. The ship was finally delivered to ++++++ on 26 August.
Four turbines would drive four separate propellors with additional reversing turbines connected to the two inner shafts only.
To improve efficiency, the two propellors either side nearest the rudder rotated inwards, while the outer propellors rotated outwards.
There were 23 double ended boilers and two single ended (fitting the forward space where the ship narrowed), operating at a maximum 195 psi and containing 192 individual furnaces.
Ja , heel verhaal, zeker ook de veronderstelde manipulatie zoals deze:
After that formality, he was to visit the Headquarters of Sir John French, who was going to mount what would ultimately prove to be an equally disastrous offensive on the Aubers Ridge the following Friday, a totally un-necessary diversion for Churchill.
Churchill knew that U-20 was on her way toward Fastnet, as was the LUSITANIA, and the cruiser due to escort her, HMS JUNO.
The U-boat and the cruiser would arrive there ahead of the Cunarder.
HMS JUNO, being of an obsolete design, was particularly vulnerable to U-boat attack, so was immediately recalled to Queenstown.
No message was sent to Captain Turner on the LUSITANIA to advise him that the escort he was expecting had now been cancelled.
This was in case the Germans intercepted the signal.
The danger was there for all to see, but only the danger to the cruiser was apparently realised. The briefing over, Churchill had lunch with his wife, then hurried to Waterloo station to catch his train.
This left the Admiralty in the charge of First Sea Lord Jacky Fisher, who was aged 75 and sadly by then showing the early signs of senility; and Admiral Oliver, who was deputising for Churchill whilst he was away

""
Kota Ratna ex-Tjiliwong (2)
1959 built by Scheepswerf De Waal, Zaltbommel | Ordered as Palima later Tjipalima for KPM, completed for KJCPL renamed Tjiliwong, 1972 sold to Mercury Shipping Co., Hong Kong renamed Mercury Gulf, 1975 sold to Pacific International Lines, Singapore renamed Kota Ratna, 1984 sold to Navy of Sri Lanka renamed Lanka A 525, 1988 scrapped.
""
, te pakken denk ik.
