4) Tail Rotor Modification
In this step I want to emphasize that this is NOT a mandatory procedure. For that matter it is NOT being emphasized by Century and if you perform this mod you do so at your own risk.
Now, what I did here is basically bolt the blades together and then wrap some electical tape around them to hold them together. I used the tape as a line to follow on the cut. Basically, I removed 7mm from the length of the blade. Why you might ask? Well, I was getting a tail wag that I just couldn't get to stop. This heli has a healthy tail gear ratio and it's a rather large tail rotor at ~5". For a micro this is to much but I'd rather have to much tail authority than not enough!
By cutting the tail blades down I am lowering the rotor's efficiency and this allowed me to raise the gain on my GY-401 to 50% in AVCS mode(Heading Hold).
I do believe that the tailblades in the kit should work just fine as is. I cut them down before I got the headspeed correct and now I am wondering if they would have been fine. I do know that if you run the headspeed at 65% throttle or lower you may see a tail wag.
