3/4th scale Slepcev Storch ;)

Nestor Slepcev's Slepcev Storch is the first of the 3/4 replicas I came across. The Slepcev Storch's claim to fame is not how fast it flies, but how slow. It can cruise as slowly as 15 mph. It takes off in 30 feet and needs only 50 feet in which to land. This means that it can fly to and from really small places. It's still available as plans and as a kit, but plans will soon be unavailable, as the plane is being certified.

3/4th scale Slepcev Storch dus...

The Slepcev Storch is a two seat tandem, Short Take-Off and Landing, (STOL), aircraft with some amazing capabilities.
Slepcev Storch - Storch Aviation SCG

The original "Storch", (German for stork), was designed in 1936, Germany, by Dr. Gerhard Fieseler, and played an important role for the Luftwaffe in the Second World War as a reconnaissance utility and personnel carrying aircraft.

The Slepcev Storch is the design of Nestor Slepcev, Cenej Novi Sad, SCG, and is a 3/4 scale version of the original. Modified in areas for simplicity, the Slepcev Storch had dual controls and two seats in tandem.

By keeping the weight down to a minimum, yet keeping the aircraft structurally still very strong, (+6 -3), the Slepcev Storch is very original in both appearance and performance. The aircraft will fly at 22mph at full flap and 30% of power. Take off run into a 16mph wind is vertical with no forward roll.

En als je dacht, dat dit een nieuwe vinding is:

Deze jongens gingen dus wel tot 100 km/uur achter een vleugelloos vliegtuig met daarin een piloot/eigenaar zonder brevet.

Polikarpov VIT-2

Development of the VIT-1 with new engines and yet more powerful armament. Twin tails provided better conditions for rear gunner;

First flown on May 11, 1938 by V.P.Chkalov, later by B.N.Kudrin (factory tests) and P.M.Stefanovskij (state acceptance tests). Performance was excellent. Decision was to launch series production with reduced armament, as a high speed dive bomber.
# Developments: SPB - high speed dive bomber;
# There was a project for long range unarmed version (7900km at 350km/h or 6200km at 500km/h) with M-105 engines. Not built.

Polikarpov was a Soviet OKB (design bureau) for aircraft, led by Nikolai Nikolaevich Polikarpov. After his death in 1944, it was absorbed into Lavochkin, but with some of its engineers going to Mikoyan-Gurevich and its production facilities going to Sukhoi.
