Paul.

Things are getting cosmopolitan, interesting

Ps.

Your Thwing project looks great , do you think the way you build it has reduced its mass , over a more conventional contruction?

No. It was meant to be a work of art. I doubt it is lighter or flies better than conventional ribs and spars.

I want to make a Big Thwing! for my O.S. 1.60 twin FS though. I'll be needing retracts for that one. I don't think I'll want to hand launch it. :)

I'm glad you guys speak my language. You know I'm American and schools teach us that no place else exists and therefore no point in learning anything but English. Sorry. :(

That’s what I thought
afb9102.gif
, it looks great.
afb9119.gif

It must have been a stupendous amount of work.

If you are going to build one that uses a 1.6 engine I would build in retracts allowing you to keep a safe distance from the prop.

Thank you. :) The retracts are absolutely necessary. I'll have to use a small, high pitch prop to keep the legs short.

The model took about 250 hours to build. I finished it in about 5 weeks. But I learned a lot so the next one won't take so long if it's the same.

A Big Thwing! will need new plans and a slightly different structure. I'll probably use spruce spars and build the wing in 3 sections because it won't fit in my car in one piece. I'm not sure how I'll do it yet, but I think about it a lot. When I have more answers I'll get started on it.

Ah, I see Mr. Cafeenman has finally found his dutch fansite.. :)

Paul, maybe they can give you the member title 'guru'.. :P

And may be Mr. Cafeenman can shed some light on what he has posted on the 'Mangojack's' (?) forum.

They are not taking any new members at the moment . . .

Or does CJScholten know?

They decided to make it a private forum. I don't know why.

What do I need to shed light on? I just thought it was cool that people who don't know me think I'm somebody. :)

hey Jan

(LUCKILY, WE ALSO STILL HAVE 'SOME' REAL MODEL BUILDERS LEFT HERE (BESIDES THE PEOPLE THAT DO ARTF, RTF, RTC, FOAM, DEPRON, ETC.ETC.))

Is Foam en depron bouwen dan niet echt bouwen misschien? :D
Staat er ergens een definitie dan modelBOUW absoluut met hout moet? :hammer:

Now I'm sort of losing track. :?

If the last is the case, then I don't need to go there, I've read your posts. 8)

But if, on the other hand, the first is the case, then I am still curious why you made us look at this mangojacks forum.

By the way, what is/are 'Mangojacks'? 8O

@Kurt!

Ja sorry, het was eigenlijk niet de bedoeling dat deze privé-opvatting in de openbaarheid zou komen . . .

Zie voor meer toelichting diverse andere draadjes, oa. over de 'Strega'.

Yes. Exactly. :)

Jan - I saw several hits to my site from modelbouwforum a few months ago, so I came to read what was being said.

Then I posted a thread at Mango's saying that I have fans here. :)

The link I posted here was so that you can see the thread at Mangos.

When I said "I posted this at Mango's" I meant "here is a thread I posted at Mango's".

Hope that clears it up.

Wat snap je niet?
MangoJacks is een tijdje geleden overgegaan in een gesloten 'community'.
Ze nemen dus geen nieuwe leden aan, en ik geloof zelfs dat je de forums niet kunt bezoeken zonder in te loggen... :|

Okay.

At the risk of being banned from the forum, let's see if we can straighten things out.

In English, so Paul can listen in also.

Might take a page or two, but, okay, well then. :?

Pay attention carefully! :teacher:

What happened?

After all the commotion about copying and hosting the content of his site had settled down, Paul adressed this community by posting:

Hello Everyone,

I'm Paul. I'm sorry but I don't speak Dutch.

I apologize for all this commotion over my website. I think the issue is cleared up now.

Somebody, I think Jonathan, said it very well. If my site is avaible in other forms, then why would anyone visit my site and therefore why should I do it at all?

Arvid, I think your intentions were good when you made your document. I think you understand what my issue is with it, but there are no hard feelings on my end.

If you or someone else wants to post one of my articles and translate it even, that's fine with me. I allow people to do that all the time for their club newsletters or whatever.

Anyway, I'm glad to see so many visitors from the Netherlands. A large number of folks from this forum visit my site every day.

Best regards to all,

Paul K. Johnson

PS. How else do you get fuel to the engine if not through the firewall??

Okay, perfect, everything clear.

Then there's the next post, the meaning of which, even at this very moment, is still unclear to me.

I think my question is clear to everyone: what does the word 'this' refer to??? 8O :?:

Since for me (and almost everyone, I think?) this 'Mangojacks forum' is new and forbidden ground, I can't see or derive what he has posted there.

Did he mean: I posted this opinion (being mad about copying my content) on this Mangojacks forum?

Did he mean: Hey! Take look at this! This is important/funny/interesting whatever?

Or did he mean: take a look at this post I posted at Mangojacks!

But why? Why should we take a look? WHY???

May be if we knew what this Mangojacks forum is about, then things would become more clear?

(A short stroll through the first page of google 'mangojacks' suggests that may be the forum has something to do with Australia? 8O
It doesn't have to do with RC, that's for sure :P )

PS

Irritated? Well, yes, a little.

If I don't understand something (chemistry, quantum physics, E = mC2, that there's no end to the universe, whatever) okay, fair enough.
My IQ probably just is to low.

But in this case, I think it's not rocket science we're talking, and still people stare at me as if I were the dumb ass.

Well, as far as I know, I'm not. :nooo:

So, who can, or is willing to, shed light on this matter, please?
And, then, hopefully, it is time again to do some model building, :proost:, and get :ontopic: again.

Hope made myself clear. :?

jan

OK, forget it. It's too long of a thread for me to put it all here.

This was my first post:

QUOTE (CafeenMan @ 11th Nov 2004, 01:50)
I keep seeing hits to my site from a Dutch forum. In a post I just translated, they actually think I'm somebody. LOL

Little do they know...

Anyway, they were talking about whatever they were talking about and then said, "Paul Johnson says (yes that paul johnson!), etc."

Anyway, it's probably best that I never go out in public any more and shatter any illusions about me that might actually be positive.

Or I could be wrong about the whole thing depending on how good or bad the online translation software is.

Then when they asked what I was talking about I linked back to this thread:

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9670&start=420

Then there was a bunch of silliness, I was asked if I can make clogs, CJ translated some of the thread and pandamonium ensued.

Typically a thread at Mango's only stays on topic for the first post and then anything goes. :)

I wish you could see it, but I'm not in charge and can't change the way things work. :(

Yes as well

Because I was telling people at Mangos that people in Holland think that I'm actually somebody which I thought was cool. :) That's all it was.

Yes, the owners and most of the members are Australian. Some are from the UK and others are scattered around the world. It's a small forum and most of the members have known each other for a long time.

Recently they decided to make the forum private, but until then it was like any other forum where anyone could join.

I think they did it because a lot of people were signing up in the forum just to start fights, so now it's invitation only.

If you want to join, I'll invite you and see if it's ok with them.

Irritated? Well, yes, a little.
Understandable, but when I posted the link I didn't realize you wouldn't be able to read it.

@Cafeenman!

Okay, now we're cooking, things are beginning to clear up. :D

On the other hand, a new question emerges . . . :?

Paul wrote on the Mangojacks forum:

(LOL stands for Laughing Out Loud)

Does 'somebody' mean: a person? I thought you were a human being . . .

(I read all sort of stuff on the VB-forum (yes, I've been doing homework 8) ) about moving from Florida to Arizona (?) etc.etc.
Looked as if it was a homo sapiens talking there!)

Or is it 'somebody' , an authority, as the opposit of a 'nobody'?

Are we overestimating your knowledge and skills? :(

What does the 'name' Cafeenman stand for? :?

What does the K. stand for?

The guy on your site, wearing the fligt cap, is that you? 8)

How can you spend 250 hours on the Thwing! in 5 weeks? 8O

What do you do for a living?

Why did you call your cat 'Wermacht'? 8O

Questions questions . . .

(Interesting character, this Paul K. Johnson! )

The real living legends surround themself with mysteries . . . and cherish them.
