de eerste 4 planken tegen de kiel moeten ongeveer even lang zijn


als je notenhouten latje je berghout is moet je die lijn volgen dus je 2 de plank moet even lang zijn als je eerste dit zal zo zijn met de eerste 5 of 6 planken zet er een potlood lijn op zodat je zeker ziet waar je blijft

 

Je hebt gelijk en pietje precies heb ik ook last van. Ik zal eens kijken hoe ik dat ga opvullen.

I am comparing your bow with mine and yours has a more pronounced and tighter curve than mine. Mine is round but not as tight.

I am not sure if I can correct my planking so it looks like yours.
When I plank, I never force the plank, I glue it the way it lays on the hull. I always have to add steelers.

Planking continues.
I have looked at other planking on fluits and they are all different. Some have the bow look like the ghost ship from amazone, some have a similar bow as the Fluit from Cees and others have close to the same as my Zeehaen.

My bow is not as bluff as the ghost ship or some of the ships in 17th century Dutch merchant ships book. So there are mistakes I have made. I sanded too much wood from the bow and instead of a tight and small curve, it is a much larger curve. Stephan suggested I should fill it out where my bow is dented. I will do that through planking.

This is not the only Fluit I am building, I plan to do another one with cannons and will be smaller in length but the same scale.

So I did a few more strakes. Two strakes a day.

My gadget for cutting scarph joints. Piece of 1mm thick brass at 25mm total length and the curved areas are each 2.5mm long.







So the straight area is 20mm long. I use a x-acto knife holder to hold the 'scarph joint cutter blade' and with a hammer pound on the cutter to create the joints.





Also I filed an edge on the cutter.

Dit is ook makkelijk om iedere naad hetzelfde te krijgen.

 

ik staa er toch versteld van dat dit werkt want ik zou denken naa 5 keer er op geslagen te hebben dat je het kan weg gooien.
maar als het werkt zoveel te beter

My scarph cutter is a thick piece of brass which I sharpend at one end. It takes 2 ticks with a small hammer to cut the scarphs. After making 10 scarphs I sharpen it so it cuts clean

We've been having some very nice weather (30 to 34°C, I love the heat) so no work on the boat. Nice weather = outside in the garden.

Did do a few strakes here and there last week.

Question I have been asked in Ships of Scale.
Why wouldn't the scarf joints not be more staggered, being adjacent to each other would seem to make a weak seam in the hull.

I agree with you. I have tried to stagger the scarphs as much as possible and it does not always work. I have to take in account the bluff bow and the steep curve in the stern area. Furthermore, the first couple of strakes close to the keel was a practice. It will be painted and in general no one will see this.
From the bilge and up I will do a better job of staggering the scarphs.

Presently I created planks of 20cm long, this includes the scarphs on each end. Dry-fit and glue them on the hull.
I can cheat a bit by glueing a 45cm plank on the hull and then at every 15 to 20cm create a scarph joint with the scarph cutter. I have done this to see the difference between that and having the planks pre-cut.

It makes for a nicer cut and gives it a tight fit at the joints.

hoi marcus het maakt het geheel niet slapper hoor. ik plank ook altijt zo .en meestal maar 1 laag beplanking van 1,5 mm
je kan best nu al houtlijm tussen de stukken die open staan doen, ( lijm tussen doen 10 min laten drogen en heel fijn schuren zodat het schuurstof zig in de lijm vast zet ) dan gewoon laten drogen en als je later heel de beplanking schuurt zie je er niets meer van

Een laag planken will ik ook eens proberen. Misschien volgende boot.
Houtlijm en fijn schuur zaagsel doe ik ook al.

Nog een paar latjes erop en ook begonnen met het berghout aan beide kanten.




Daarna de tuin in maar tot ongeveer iets voor drie want de temperatuur was boven de 100°F (ongeveer 34°C).


We hebben deze temperatuur in de late zomer (Aug - Sept) maar zeer zelden in de lente (Mei - Jun).
Als deze temp. aanhoud, hoef ik over een paar jaar niet naar Santa Fe, New Mexico te verhuizen. Warm en droog het hele jaar. Chicago is leuk maar in de winter veel teveel sneeuw en koud.

Ik hoorde vorig jaar van een vriend in Heerhugowaard dat het bij jullie ook leeker warm was. Heatwave??...... in the Netherlands ??

je hoeft niet met een spie te werken achteraan laat gewoon de planken tegen het berghout lopen zo zijn de echte fluiten ook gemaakt
en wij hebben ook een paar weken heel goed weer gehad met temperaturen tussen de 25 en 30° het leek wel mid zomer .

probeer je lassen allemaal het zelfde te doen marcus als je schip voorwaarts vaart zou het water van de las moeten lopen naar achter en naar beneden.

 

ik hoop dat de tekening verduiding brengt hoe de las moet lopen
ik heb er soms ook wel 1 verkeert zitten hoor maar probeer er op te letten
