@Danny Mulders. Dear Danny - it is great to hear from you. You are the original Batavia builder (the Admiraal doesn't count !) and I follow your build log very closely. In fact, I have rewritten your whole build log in English and with all your photographs that helps a great deal with the build.

I am now at the point where I have to decide whether to open the Hatches on Deck A or leave them closed. I see that even though you opened them at first, you closed them later - as most other builders seem to do as well.

Unless you can source some extra gratings to cover the hatches, leave them closed. The openings are simply too large to hide the fact that the deck below is completely flat and that there are no full cannons with gun carriages present. If I had noticed this fact sooner I wouldn't even have bothered with opening the hatches in the first place.

@cees050 : Beste Cees. Baie dankie vir die mooi woorde en dat jy die bouwverslag volg. Ek het nou so n bietjie tyd, so ek prober maar soveel werk gedoen kry as wat ek kan. Vanaf volgende Maand, sal die bouw seker baie stadiger wees.

Dear Friends

I have a short update that I can share with you. As you will recall from my previous post, I installed the "geschutpoorten" on the starboard side and then replicated it on the port side.



This is still a picture of the starboard side with the boxes lying ready in front of the hull.

Finally I could upgrade to a bigger building board with proper clamps to hold the keel and then it was time for the fitment of Deck A. As the name suggests this is the first "real" deck and consists of 6 parts - two each for the front, middle and rear sections.

During the installation of the middle decks, these cans of Pepsi provided good weight to bear down the deck while the glue dried.

Following most builders on the forum, I have decided to keep the two front hatches closed. This was a difficult decision, because I am not too keen on the canvas covers, but seeing that everything on the False Deck below is empty, it does not make much sense to open the hatches. I will still think of what can be done here.

Knap werk hoor Heinrich wat je ons allemaal weer laat zien

 

Baie dankie Koos. Ek het nou al begin met die beplanking van Dek A, maar ek vat dit maar baie stadig om seker te maak ek hou by die doorsnede tekening. Ek gaan net n deeltjie eers beplank (tudden die schaarstokke) en dan aanskuif na die rompbeplanking.

 

Dat ziet er allemaal erg netjes uit!
