Delivery of the Pilot Tender ?WANGEROOG?
The pilot tender ?Wangeroog? (port of registry: Bremerhaven) has been delivered on the 21st October 04 to the ?Wasser- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes?, represented by ?Technische Fachstelle Nordwest? in Brake. This vessel has been built in less than 2 years.
?Wangeroog? is the fifth SWATH@A&R® vessel delivered by Abeking & Rasmussen. The construction of two further SWATH vessels will be completed so far by end of this year that they can commence service in 2005/ beginning 2006. Abeking & Rasmussen is in intensive negotiations for further repeat orders at present.
Since 1999 the pilot tender ?D? and ?Duhnen? are performing their service in the German Bight. The positive experiences with these pilot tenders resulted in this further order and other repeat vessels. Abeking & Rasmussen being the first yard in Europe establishing the serial design of SWATH adopted the well proven design in order to optimize the vessel to the needs of each operational area. The complex vessels are now ready for serial production that has already been proven by more than 50.000 operating hours.
The leading European Seaports such as Hamburg with more than 93.000.000 t handling capability, Antwerp with almost 228.000.000 t handling capability and Rotterdam with more than 326.000.000 t handling capability will be served by the SWATH-vessels as an economic boarding system for seapilots.
The SWATH@A&R® vessels are performing more than 25.000 Boardings or pilot transfers per year. The superior manoeuvring- and seakeeping capabilities in rough seas guarantee very high safety standard and increased readiness for operation on the highly frequented sea ways in the European North Sea.
First SWATH vessel fly the German ensign
On Mai 13th the new 25m SWATH M/S "Explorer" was handed over to the German Armed ForcesProcurement Agency (BWB). It is the first SWATH vessel to fly the German ensign. The "Explorer" is used as a "Demonstrator" vessel for the further development of the "Minehunting 2000" remote controlled system. In the next weeks the "Explorer" is going to start with the trials in the North- and Baltic Sea. The main focus is the reduction of danger for staff and material as well as on the comprehensive mine countermeasure under every weather condition in shortest time. This system makes the detection and removing of buried mines in nearly 100 possible. The newbuilt SWATH vessel is based verly closely on the proven 25m SWATH Pilot Vessels, which offer superior capabilities especially during launching and recovery of the sensitive towed sonar equipment. During the development the SWATH vessel has been tested with regard to shock resistant and could prove its excellent capability in several trials. With this program the German Navy and the German Naval Industry will expand its leading position in the maritime minecounter measure.
Third Offshore Patrol Vessel was named and put into service for the German Coast Guard
The shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen delivered the third and last vessel out of a series of three 66m Offhore Patrol Vessel to the German Coast Guard (Bundesgrenzschutz) This vessel "Eschwege" was named and put into service by Anja Margarete Helene Hajduk, Member of the Lower House of Germany, on the 18th December 2003 in Warnem?Rostock. The three new vessels are intended to replace older units in the North and Baltic Sea. Special aim has been given to an improved seakeeping behaviour and manoeuvrability of the vessels. The new boat wide radius of action makes them ideal for performance of their maritime duties. This not only guarantees long operational periods at sea, it also facilitates close national and international cooperation between (border) police forces. The modern propulsion concept consists a large diesel engine for high speeds and an electric motor powered by the ship' network.
